To say Pratik Tailor is shooting well is somewhat of an understatement. At the Wellington Central Open Champs over the weekend, Pratik began his match with a perfect 100.10, followed by 100.6 and 100.5, giving him the Master Grade win with 300.21, and then continuing this fantastic shooting with 200.15 in the Final 10 to be awarded the Wellington Central Open Champion trophy with an overall score of 500.36. Well done, Pratik! Club President David Grain had much pleasure in awarding Pratik a “500” badge at the club last night for this outstanding achievement. Also huge congratulations to Summer O’Dwyer who won D Grade with 285.8, a point ahead of second-placed Ollie Tuohy on 284.9. It is hard to believe Summer moved to sling and jacket only four weeks ago. Her score included a new 10-shot PB of 96.3, while Ollie also scored a new PB of 97.5. And the prizes didn’t stop there – congratulations also to Andrea Tuohy who won B Grade with an impressive 294.11, and to Stephen Thessman who finished 2nd in C Grade with 285.5, only inners behind the winner, and Michael Grain shot extremely well in the Final 10, scoring his first 200 of the season (200.15). It was great to have so many Brooklyn members supporting Wellington Central Club by entering this event. The next open champs on the calendar is at the Poroutawhao range, approximately 10km north of Levin on State Highway 1, on Saturday 16 May.
Welcome to our newest member, Dave Wilks. Having shot on the rest for a number of weeks and achieving extremely good scores, Dave moved into the sling last week shooting an 85.0 first time but was keen to do better – and did so this week with a phenomenal 98.5!! on his first card. Just to prove it wasn’t a fluke, his second card was also a very commendable 93.1. The D Grade competition is looking very exciting.
It was another busy week at the club, with 37 shooters. On the rest, Daniel recorded the best score of 86.1. There were many excellent scores recorded in D Grade, the top five being Dave Wilks 98.5, Ollie Tuohy 95.4, Luisa Kristen 95.3, Jamie Yee 95.3 and Hamish Guthrey 93.3, while Alaina Wilks achieved a new PB of 87.1. Top shot in C Grade this week was Greg Mason with 95.4 closely followed by Neil Maddever with 95.1. Craig Fair is back on form in B Grade with 97.5, Evan Little took top honours in A Grade with a fantastic 100.8, and Pratik Tailor did it again in Master Grade with yet another 100.9. The top score in the 20-shot competition this week of 199.14 was shot by Dianne Grain, with Pratik Tailor only a matter of inners behind with 199.9. Many thanks to Yogesh Tailor for range officering throughout the evening, and to Jess Fair for feeding us in Meredith’s absence.
Have you seen the club’s updated website? Check it out: http://www.bsrc.org.nz/. Some of the pages are still “under construction” but the new format allows viewers quick access to previous “shooting updates”, upcoming events reminders and links to open champs, and easier readability of the scores spreadsheets. Many thanks to Mark Robinson for the huge amount of work he has put into the new website format.
The closed champs targets have now been prepared and can be located on the table in front of the club results board each week. The deadline for Round 1 is Sunday 24 May so please ensure you shoot your first card before this date.
Best of luck to all those shooting in the Rees Scroll match in Dannevirke this weekend.
