The WSRA AGM is being held this Friday at 7.45pm at the range. We are all members of the Wellington Association and we all have a say in how the association is run – the AGM is your opportunity to voice any ideas you may wish to put forward. Please remember that the association and the club are run by volunteers who put in many hours of time and effort. Your support and assistance on club days and at association events is much appreciated, and by becoming more involved, you get a lot more enjoyment from the sport.
There was another great turnout to shooting yesterday, with 40 shooters along with many helpers. Thanks to the large number who helped with our range cleaning duties – many hands made light work again with the task completed quickly. If you weren’t able to help out yesterday, hopefully you’ll be able to do so when we do it all again in a couple of weeks’ time.
Many of those in the introductory programme once again showed great improvement over their previous weeks, with 17 scores in the 80s and 7 in the 90s. Top shots were Sarah Williamson 92.2, Yiannis Fam 92.1, and Bella Gauld 90.2. Ex-member Mark Robinson had a go on the rest and showed he hadn’t lost his skill, scoring 90.1 and 95.0.
Top shot in the evening session was Meredith Ackrill with 98.2 followed by Callum Osborne on 97.4. Mark Riley scored highest in C Grade with 95.3, and it was extremely close in D Grade with three scores being within a point of each other (Rhys Mountain 91.2, Matthew Canlas 91.1 and Jack MacCormick 90.1).

It was decided to award the Perkins trophy, re-presented to the club by descendants of one of the club’s original members, for the ladder competition. This is a competition that can be won by any club member, from the newest right through to the most experienced. The aim is to shoot regularly and score higher than the person you are challenging or being challenged by. In doing so you will get two points, and these points add up over the whole season. The person with the highest number of points wins the competition. Each week a chart will be displayed at the club showing shooters’ ranking by points.
A reminder that Brooklyn are on cleaning duty next week – please bring along vacuum cleaners, mops and other cleaning products. The more people available to help with this task, the quicker it will be accomplished.
Meredith has been doing a great job of organising our club dinners for a couple of years. This year we’re looking to share this task around, and a roster is being organised. Could you please let Meredith know any dates that would suit you to organise dinner. If you are able to help out with dinner once or twice this season, that would be much appreciated. Usually there are around 12-16 people to cater for, and the cost of ingredients is covered by the $5 payment each person makes for dinner.
David will be making up the scoreboard charts for the club competition in the next few weeks. In order to get the charts as accurate as possible, please let me know (if you haven’t already) if you are not intending to return to shooting this year, or if you are not a current member but do intend to shoot this year.

Many thanks to the following members for helping run the programme yesterday. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm from everyone to get involved in every part of the event.

A few hardy members braved the heat to don jacket and sling and shoot some practice cards. Only a couple of points separated the top shots (Meredith Ackrill and Evan Little 97.5, Craig Fair 96.5 and Ollie Tuohy 95.4). Matthew Canlas’s second card was looking very impressive, only two points down after six shots.
Brooklyn are on cleaning duty in March – this will be scheduled for Sunday 13 March and Sunday 27 March.
Next Sunday the Brooklyn AGM will be held at 7pm. Please consider putting your name forward to join the committee.
