Our B Grade interclub team shot extremely well in the final round, scoring 382.9, with Anna Hooper top-scoring with 99.4 and gaining the team two bonus points.  Brooklyn finished in 3rd position, while Melrose are this year’s B Grade interclub winners, finishing a point ahead of Wellington Central with both teams gaining two bonus points in this round.  Wellington Central have won the Open Grade, while Brooklyn have won C Grade.

Congratulations to Meredith Ackrill on scoring a phenomenal 396.21 in the North Island women’s team which gained her a place in the New Zealand women’s team to compete against Great Britain yesterday.  Erin Little also scored well in the North Island junior team with 385.13.

The Osmond Shield and Wright Cup matches are being held on Saturday 1 September, with the first squad commencing at 7.30pm.  This is probably the most interesting and hotly contested club competition on the calendar.  The Wright Cup match comprises teams of six shooters (all C and D Graders) with the best five scores counting, and the Osmond Shield match comprises teams of eight shooters (only four of whom can be A Grade or Master Grade) with all scores counting.  Teams will be selected on Saturday 25 August.

The 20-shot competition scores were extremely close yesterday – top shot was Mark Riley with 193.11 followed by Dianne Grain 193.8 and David Grain 193.7.  Josh Whitehead scored best in D Grade with 94.1 followed by Hugh Guiney 93.2 and Callum Austin 91.2.  Anna Hooper’s 97.3 was best in C Grade, while Wiko du Toit scored an inner more than Mark Riley in B Grade (97.2 and 97.1 respectively), and David Grain had the best A Grade score of 99.3.

A reminder to ensure your grading spreadsheet is up to date.  These will be collected in early October for collation and forwarding to the national body, Target Shooting New Zealand.  It is every shooter’s responsibility to complete their own grading return, irrespective of whether they intend to return to shooting next year or not.

Round 1 of the intercollegiate match was held at the Keene Range in Petone yesterday, with 56 local students competing.  Wellington College currently have a very close lead, being just one point ahead of Taita College and three points ahead of Upper Hutt College.  Amalamo Simi was top shot for the college with 96.2.  Round 2 will be shot on Sunday 26 August at the Royal Tiger Range.   A reminder that the trophies won last year (Wellington College and Oscar Robinson) need to be returned, polished and engraved, by 26 August to the organisers.

Congratulations to Josh Whitehead on scoring a new PB yesterday, a very impressive 94.5.

Triple S Round 3 results are now available.  Top Brooklyn shooters are currently Amy Nathanson (17th in C Grade) and Emily Lockery (22nd in D Grade).  As mentioned a few weeks ago, the final round of the Triple S champs is a 20-shot card.  To enable practice for this, each week there will be one 20-shot squad during the earlier session.  It was great to see four of our members give it a go yesterday with some very good results, particularly Carl Whitehead and Josh Whitehead, both scoring 181.

A reminder that all members are able to get in extra practice in the evening non-coached session if they wish.

In club shooting yesterday the highest D Graders were Josh Whitehead 94.5, Emily Lockery 94.2 and Chris Lockery 90.0.  Anna Hooper scored extremely well in C Grade with 99.4, five points ahead of next best Hamish Guthrey with 94.2.  Mark Riley and Erin Little continue to battle it out in B Grade, this week with only four inners separating them (98.5 and 98.1 respectively).  David Grain finished an inner ahead of Dianne Grain in A Grade with 98.5, while Master Grade shooters Meredith Ackrill and Evan Little both scored 97.5.  Meredith Ackrill had the best 20-shot score of 197.14 ahead of Evan Little on 195.6.

A very busy day at the club yesterday with 30 shooters.  Unfortunately there were a number of scores not recorded on the scoresheet in the marking room.  It is vital that every score is written down, whether a practice card or a competition card.  Please ensure, if you are marking, that you remember to record the score once the target has been check-marked.

B Grade and D Grade interassociation matches were held last Monday.  Full results will be available at the end of September.

In the Triangular B Grade, Juniors and Women’s matches held on Saturday at the Keene Range in Petone, our Wellington women’s team scored a 25-point win (5 points per shooter!), while the B Grade team had a close match, finishing 6 points behind Hutt Valley, and our junior team lost by 16 points.  Top Brooklyn shooters were Meredith Ackrill 197.12, Erin Little 193.8 and Amalamo Simi 193.5.

There were 245 entries in the National Champs held at various ranges around the country yesterday.  Top Brooklyn shooters competing were Evan Little (392.21, 27th in Master Grade), Dianne Grain (389.19, 24th in A Grade) and Mark Riley (389.14, 15th in B Grade).

A clean sweep to Brooklyn in Round 5 of the interclub competition!  Top Brooklyn shooters in each match were Anna Hooper 94.4, Mark Riley 97.2 and Meredith Ackrill 195.10.  Only a point separated the two teams in the C Grade match, while our B Grade team had a 5-point win against Melrose, and our Open Grade team finished 4 points ahead of Wellington Central.  Congratulations to our C Grade interclub team on winning the 2018 competition (Anna Hooper, Casey Israelson, Amalamo Simi, Inge Little, Matthew Canlas and Chris Lockery).  A team of four will now compete against the Hutt Valley C Grade interclub winners on Friday 14 September.  This completes the competition for our C Grade and Open Grade teams.  The final round for our B Grade team will be shot on Thursday 16 August.

Thanks to Wiko du Toit and Craig Fair for taking over the coordination of college shooting.  Upcoming events include the TSNZ Challenge for teams of three (1x Marsden, 2x Wellington College) with targets to be shot by the end of August; the local secondary schools match for 1x Wellington College team of six, and individuals from other colleges being held in two rounds on 12 and 26 August; and a three-person team from each college to compete in the interisland secondary schools match in Rangiora at the end of September.  If you have any questions regarding college shooting, please contact Wiko or Craig.  A reminder that the deadline for Round 3 Triple S targets is next Sunday.

Evan Little scored best in the 20-shot competition this week with 197.11 followed by Meredith Ackrill with 195.10.  Meredith had the best Master Grade 10-shot score of 98.8, while David Grain’s 100.6 was highest in A Grade.  In B Grade the best score was shot by Erin Little 99.6 followed by Wiko du Toit 98.6.  Inge Little’s 93.0 was the top score in C Grade ahead of Anna Hooper with 92.2.  And in D Grade, the best scores were shot by Emily Lockery 92.2, Nathan Chamberlain 91.1, Gareth Poulter 90.3, Josh Whitehead 89.1 and Carl Whitehead 89.0.

A reminder that the National Indoor Champs are being shot at a number of venues around the country, including the Royal Tiger Range in Newtown, next Sunday afternoon.  This graded match is open for anyone to enter so come along and have a go – there’s great prize money to be won.  The match comprises 2x20 shot targets for Master, A and B Grade shooters, while C and D Graders shoot 1x10 + 1x20.  Please note the Newtown range will be open for shooting from 1pm (rather than 12 noon noted on the poster).  And being a Sunday, any cards shot by Brooklyn members can be counted towards the club competition – simply let a senior member know you wish to nominate your cards before you shoot them.

As there are only nine weeks remaining of the graded season, please ensure your grading spreadsheet is up to date.  These will be collected in the first week of October for collation and forwarding to the national body, Target Shooting New Zealand.  It is the responsibility of every member to complete their own grading return, regardless of whether or not you will be returning to shooting next year.

It is great to see our newer members becoming very proficient in setting up the equipment, in target changing and in the marking room.  Many hands make light work and we’ve been able to get underway a little earlier each week which is a definite plus for those shooting in the later session. Please aim to mark two targets each week (then allow others to do the same), and to organise target preparation and target changing at least once a fortnight.

Mike Williams recorded yet another new PB – the continuing improvement each week is fantastic, well done!  Mike’s score of 92.2 was best in D Grade this week, followed by Josh Whitehead 89.2, Hugh Guiney 88.2 and Aiden D’Souza 88.2.  Anna Hooper led C Grade with 97.2 ahead of Casey Israelson 95.2 and Amalamo Simi 95.0.  Top shot in B Grade was Erin Little with 98.2, and in A Grade Dianne Grain led with 98.2 also, while Evan Little’s 98.4 was best in Master Grade.  The 20-shot scores were extremely close this week all being within two points, but top shot was Mark Riley with 195.11 which included a 100.8, his best single card ever – great shooting, Mark!

In the final of the round robin section of the NDC competition, Wellington were successful against top of the table Manawatu.  Both the composite and junior sections won their matches quite convincingly, and Erin Little’s 100 gained Wellington an extra point, to give a total of 8 points to Manawatu’s 6 points.  Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to gain Wellington a place in the semi-final, but to finish in 5th position in our first year in Division 1 is a huge success in itself.  Meredith Ackrill was top scorer overall for Wellington in the competition, scoring 1484 (an average of 98.93!).  This is definitely one of the best competitions on the shooting calendar and hopefully our up and coming shooters will give it a go next year.

Results from Round 2 of the Secondary Schools Shooting Champs (Triple S Champs) were emailed during the week.  Congratulations to Amy Nathanson and Emily Lockery – currently the best Brooklyn C Grade and D Grade shooters respectively in this match.  Round 3 targets need to be shot by Sunday 5 August.  As the final round is a 20-shot round, there’ll be at least one 20-shot squad each week from 12 August to enable practice on the double card.

The National Indoor Champs are being held on Sunday 5 August.  Being a Sunday, cards shot at the champs can also be counted towards the club champs – please remember to inform a senior club member before the card is shot.
