It was great to see so many Brooklyn shooters supporting Wellington Central Club's open champs on Saturday. Congratulations to Callum Osborne (2nd C Grade), Neakiry Kivi (2nd D Grade) and Ross Little (3rd A Grade), Alex Woodwark and Michael Grain (both shot in Final 10). Callum's exceptionally good score of 290.12 was better than a large number of higher grade shooters and a fantastic start to meeting the required four open champs criteria for selection to the North Island junior team.
The next open champs is at the Poroutawhao Range, 10 km north of Levin on State Highway 1, on Friday and Saturday 16 and 17 May. If you're using club equipment and wish to shoot in this competition, please ensure you advise me by email by Sunday 10 May so that your equipment can be organised.
Competition was close at the club this week, with all Master Graders shooting either 100's or 99's. Top shot was Meredith Ackrill 100.6, followed by Pratik Tailor 100.5. David Grain recorded the highest A Grade score of 99.6 this week with Jess Fair a point behind on 98.5. In B Grade Maor Ben-Shahar shot extremely well, scoring 98.3, 97.4 and 97.4. Erin Little is back on form in C Grade with 96.3, and in D Grade competition was again tight with Ronan Balm recording the best score of 92.1, very closely followed by Luisa Kristen 92.0, and Neakiry Kivi and Jamie Yee both shooting 91.1. The college training squad continues to improve with most shooters now scoring in the 80's and 90's; top shots this week were Sarah May 90.2 and Conrad Draper 90.1. Michael Grain shot the best 20-shot card this week, scoring 199.16 which included 100.9!
Many thanks to the large number of club members and helpers who assist with running the club each week, whether it's behind the scenes, coaching, organising our Sunday meal, moving shooters to slings, keeping things ticking along on club days, range officering, training new shooters in marking and target changing, setting up or packing away, this all contributes hugely to our club morale and team environment.
A reminder for those involved in the interclub match tomorrow night please be at the range no later than 20 minutes prior to your match start time.
