Secondary School Competitions

Club members of secondary school age take part in a number of competitions through the year. If you are interested in being in one of the teams please get in touch with one of the team captains.

  • Open to every secondary school in New Zealand.  Approximately 600 students take part in this annual competition.
  • Teams comprise three shooters.  Schools can enter as many teams as they wish.  Each shooter may compete in only one team.
  • Shooters can shoot using either a rest or a sling.  Each shooter is required to shoot 2 x 10-shot targets.
  • Targets shot at home range.
  • Awards will be presented to the school of the top boys, girls, mixed and rest grade teams, to each member of the top teams, to the top three individual girls and the top three individual boys (using sling only), and to the top girl and boy overall.  All individual shooters who complete the competition will receive TSNZ certificates..
  • Round 1 is shot at the Keene Range, Petone.  Round 2 is shot two weeks later at the Royal Tiger Range, Newtown.
  • Teams consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of five shooters (best three scores to count for the school team total).
  • Shooting using rests is not permitted.
  • All team members shoot 1 x 10-shot target in each round.
  • Trophies will be presented at the conclusion of Round 2.
  • The top 12 shooters from Wellington schools will form a Wellington secondary schools team to shoot in a match against other provinces at the Royal Tiger Range, Newtown.  This will be a 2 x 10-shot match.
  • An annual event held at two venues: one in the North Island and the other in the South Island.
  • All secondary schools may enter one team of three shooters.
  • Team names are to be supplied with the entry form.
  • Shooting using rests is not permitted.  All team members shoot 2 x 10-shot targets.
  • Medals are presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd individual shooters, and to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams.  A framed certificate will be awarded to the winning school and all participants will receive certificates.
  • The top 12 shooters from each island in the inter-secondary school match form North and South Island teams.
  • All team members shoot 2 x 10-shot targets.
  • Certificates and medals will be awarded to all members of the winning team.
  • The New Zealand secondary schools team is selected from the top 12 scores overall from the aggregate of the inter-secondary school match and the inter-island secondary schools match.
  • All team members will shoot 2 x 10-shot UK targets against Great Britain.
  • Certificates and medals will be awarded to all members of the team, along with a British pennant.
  • There will be a plate match (2 x 10-shot UK targets) for those not selected for the New Zealand team.
