Firstly congratulations to Wiko du Toit and Summer O’Dwyer on being selected for the 2017 New Zealand Junior Development Squad.  The squad’s focus is on getting junior shooters to a level where they can compete internationally, primarily in air rifle and 3P.  Good luck to both of you, and remember to pass on what you learn to other shooters.

Our new shooters showed great improvement this week, remembering the basics of positioning the butt plate into the shoulder and taking the shot with breath exhaled.  This week’s topics covered finger placement on the trigger, thumb position, and the two-stage trigger.  The highest scores were shot by Amy Nathanson 93.3, Ethan High 93.2, Chris Lockery 90.3, William Chen 87.3 and Casey Israelson 87.2.  Seven other shooters also achieved scores in the 80s.

Congratulations to C Grader Erin Little on a new PB of 99.6 – well done!

Top shots in the lower grades at this week’s practice session were Qiyun Goh 88.4 (D), Erin Little 99.6 (C) and Wiko du Toit 97.4 (B).

Attached is the club shooting calendar.  Full interclub details are still be added once this information is known.  Keep this handy for quick reference about upcoming events.

an Huge thanks to our many many helpers for the first week of the introductory programme.  Feedback from shooters talked of excellent coaching advice and noted the large number of juniors assisting.  We had 27 new shooters and nearly as many members helping out!

While we’re primarily looking at consistency, special mention needs to be made of a number of extremely good scores achieved: Ethan Haigh 90.3, Simon Hay 89.2, Will Palmer 87.2 and Xav Paice 86.1.  Five other shooters also achieved scores in the 80s.

In the club practice session, Pratik Tailor began the 2017 season with an incredible 100.7 and 200.13.  Great shooting!  Only a few braved the hot conditions this week, with top shot in each of the lower grades going to Melchior Meares 91.0 (D), Amalamo Simi 93. 3 (C), and Mark Riley 95.4 (B).  It appears we’ll have a good spread across the grades this year, providing healthy competition for a place in the interclub teams.

The upcoming WSRA AGM on Friday 17 March commemorates the Association’s centenary and will be followed by a special supper after the meeting.  The AGM is an opportunity for you to hear more about the work being done behind the scenes by the Executive, and to put forward any suggestions you may have regarding Wellington shooting.

Next week we’ll follow the same format as this week: introductory programme for new shooters at 3.00pm and 4.30pm, followed by club dinner at 6pm, then an evening practice session for current club members from 7pm onwards.  The club competition will commence on 19 March.
