Mike Williams continues to rewrite his PB record book, scoring his fourth new PB in four weeks. Matthew Ault and Adam Williams also recorded new PBs this week.
Wellington had a tough match against Waikato in Round 3 of the NDC competition, with Waikato scoring wins in each of the three sections. However Wellington have their double-header match in the next round, facing both Hutt Valley and Taranaki, so a good opportunity to get some more points on the table. Congratulations to Casey Israelson who set a new PB with his first card of 98.3, then followed it up with another new PB of 98.5 – well done! Casey was new to shooting last year, purchasing a second-hand rifle at the end of the season – having your own equipment allows adjustments to be made to get a better fit, and Casey’s continued improvement this season is testament to the benefits gained from this.
There were some great scores shot at the club this week, of particular note Meredith Ackrill’s 100.9 with a test out inner, almost the perfect card! Evan Little was on form as well, scoring 99.9 (dropping his last shot!) on his 10-shot card, then following up with another 99.9 as part of his 20-shot card. Evan’s score of 197.13 topped the 20-shot competition this week, followed by Meredith Ackrill 196.5 and Dianne Grain 195.11.
The highest scoring D Graders were Chris Lockery 94.4, Aiden D’Souza 93.1, Emily Lockery 92.2, and Matthew Ault 91.0, with another six shooters scoring in the high 80s. Inge Little led C Grade this week with an impressive 98.4, followed by Anna Hooper 96.4 and Casey Israelson 96.3. Ross Little was on form in B Grade, scoring 99.5 and 99.4. Only an inner separated Dianne Grain 96.3 and David Grain 96.2 in A Grade, and Meredith’s 100.9 was the best score recorded in Master Grade ahead of Evan’s 99.9.

Erin Little top-scored in the interassociation junior match on Tuesday with an impressive 197.10. And the interassociation open team achieved a very good result; our three Brooklyn shooters finished within a point of each other with Evan Little scoring best with 197.12. Full results from all associations will be available at the end of September.

Wellington were successful in Round 2 of the National District Champs (NDC) competition held on Thursday against Canterbury, scoring wins in both the junior and composite sections as well as gaining a bonus point for the best overall score. This places Wellington 3rd equal on the points table with Taranaki; however leader Manawatu along with Taranaki have already shot their double-header rounds which means they have completed three matches against Wellington’s two matches. Wellington’s double-header round is on 28 June. Congratulations to Meredith Ackrill on being named in the top five shooters in Division 1 with a score of 298.8. Wellington will face the mighty Waikato in Round 3 on Thursday 7 June.
Another very busy day at the club yesterday with around 30 people. Please remember to do your bit to help with running the club; everyone can assist somewhere – newer shooters should be helping set up, target changing and learning to mark, more experienced members should be assisting with range officering, coaching and offering advice to newer shooters. Don’t wait to be asked, get involved.
Our club is on cleaning duties this month, which will be undertaken next Sunday between 7.30pm and 8.00pm. Please bring buckets, mops and cleaning cloths, and an extra vacuum cleaner or two would be greatly appreciated. The more helpers we have, the quicker the task will be accomplished. Squad 1 will start 15 minutes earlier than usual at 6.15pm next week.
Meredith Ackrill and Evan Little both recorded 197.12, the best score in the 20-shot competition, while B Grader Mark Riley was only a couple of points lower at 195.9. The main match this week was the Teams of Ten held at Te Puke Range near Tauranga. Te Puke Club did a fantastic job to convert their 10-mound range to an 18-mound range within nine weeks following the cancellation of their booking at an alternative venue. Teamwork between shooters was necessary as space to set up and pack away equipment was extremely tight, with around 200 people in a space much smaller than the Royal Tiger range social area. The 20-yard range (rather than our standard 25 yards) may have resulted in a few lost points on the smaller targets, but it was good to see most team members improved on their second cards. Congratulations to Evan Little and Ross Little on achieving the “top dog” award for each of our Wellington teams with very respectable scores of 395.28 and 390.21 respectively. This match is highly recommended, and will next year be held at the Masterton range, so give it a go, all nominations welcomed.
It’s great to see our newer shooters continue to set new PBs, this week by Aiden d’Souza, Poul Israelson, Jack Day, Matthew Ault, Marin McCarthy and Adam Williams.
We have been asked to host a social shoot at 4.30pm on Sunday 17 June. Please let me know if you will be able to assist with this – we will need squadders, target preparation, target changing, ammunition loaders, markers, check markers, range officers, and score writers so plenty of tasks available for all.
B Grader Mark Riley recorded a very nice 20-shot card of 195.8 at the club yesterday. Top shots in D Grade were Callum Austin 94.2, Aiden d’Souza 93.2, Poul Israelson 93.1, and Josh Whitehead 90.1, while another seven shooters scored in the 80s. Anna Hooper led C Grade with 95.3 followed by Casey Israelson with 94.3. There were many impressive scores shot in B Grade – Ross Little 99.7 and 98.2, Erin Little 98.5 and Mark Riley 97.6. David Grain finished an inner ahead of Dianne Grain in A Grade with 97.4, and Evan Little shot well in Master Grade with 100.7 followed by 99.8.
